This custom 304 stainless steel threaded connector is produced by Swiss-type CNC machining and finished by grinding and polishing. The part combines an internal bore and internal thread with an external thread, stepped cylindrical features and wrench flats in a compact assembly interface.
Structure and Machining Features
The principal control requirement is maintaining the coaxial relationship between the internal bore, internal thread, outer diameter and external thread. Small runout introduced by workholding or cutting stress can affect thread engagement and the downstream assembly interface. The part therefore needs a stable datum strategy and controlled support throughout turning and threading.
Threading and Material Control
304 stainless steel has high ductility and tends to form built-up edge during turning. Threading parameters, insert condition and chip control must be managed carefully to reduce torn thread flanks, burrs and surface drag marks. Final grinding and polishing are then controlled across the cylindrical surfaces, shoulders and flats while retaining the specified geometry.
Project Value
For a connector with internal and external threaded features, the valuable control point is to treat all mating diameters and threads as one axial system rather than separate operations. Establishing and protecting the datum axis through machining and finishing supports predictable engagement, reduces the risk of assembly interference, and preserves surface quality where the component interfaces with related parts.
