Carbon Steel / Mild Steel
Carbon steel and mild steel offer good strength, formability, weldability, and cost efficiency, making them suitable for laser cutting of brackets, frames, mounting plates, machine guards, fixtures, enclosures, and other structural sheet metal parts. Common grades include A36, 1018, and Q235.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel offers excellent corrosion resistance, good strength, and reliable formability and weldability, making it suitable for laser cutting of panels, brackets, covers, enclosures, food-processing parts, medical equipment components, and other precision sheet metal parts. Common grades include 304, 304L, 316, and 316L.
Aluminum
Aluminum is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and easy to form, making it suitable for laser cutting of panels, covers, enclosures, brackets, electronics components, equipment parts, and other lightweight sheet metal parts. Common grades include 5052, 6061, and 3003.
Copper
Copper offers excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, good formability, and reliable corrosion resistance, making it suitable for laser cutting of busbars, electrical contacts, shielding plates, heat spreaders, conductive components, and custom sheet metal parts. Common grades include C110 and C101.
Polycarbonate / PC
Polycarbonate offers excellent impact resistance, good dimensional stability, and high optical clarity, making it suitable for laser cutting of protective covers, machine guards, transparent panels, equipment windows, display components, and durable plastic parts.
Acrylic / PMMA
Acrylic offers excellent optical clarity, good weather resistance, and a smooth surface finish, making it suitable for laser cutting of display panels, light guides, protective covers, signage, equipment windows, decorative parts, and visual prototypes. Available options include clear, colored, cast, and extruded acrylic.
POM (Acetal / Delrin®)
POM offers low friction, good wear resistance, high stiffness, and excellent dimensional stability, making it suitable for precision spacers, guides, sliding components, wear plates, fixtures, and other functional plastic parts.
Laser Cutting Surface Finishing Options
Polishing
Improves brightness and smoothness, often used for stainless steel, aluminum, brass, or decorative parts.
Painting
Adds custom color and cosmetic appearance for metal or selected plastic parts.
Plating
Improves corrosion resistance, conductivity, wear resistance, or appearance depending on the material and coating type.
Powder Coating
Adds durable color and corrosion protection for metal panels, covers, brackets, and enclosures.
Anodizing
Used for aluminum parts to improve corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and color appearance.
Bead Blasting
Produces a uniform matte surface and reduces visible surface marks.
Brushing
Creates a directional grain finish, commonly used for stainless steel and aluminum panels.
Deburring
Removes sharp edges and small burrs from laser-cut parts for safer handling and cleaner assembly.

Laser Cutting Tolerances & Design Guidelines
Capability | Typical Guidance |
|---|---|
General Laser Cutting Tolerance | Commonly around ±0.10 mm to ±0.25 mm depending on material and thickness |
Standard Practical Tolerance | Around ±0.127 mm / ±0.005 in is often used as a standard reference |
Kerf Width | Typically around 0.2-0.4 mm for laser cutting |
Minimum Feature Size | Recommended at least 2× material thickness, or reviewed based on material and thickness |
Best-Fit Parts | Panels, brackets, covers, shims, signs, guards, enclosures, flat sheet metal parts |
Thickness Note | Sheet thickness tolerance depends on raw material stock, not only the laser cutting process |
