Product Information
Manufacturing Process CNC machining Part Type Paired curved handheld housing half-shells Material 6061 aluminum alloy Post-Processing Sandblasting and black anodizing Structural Features Long curved thin-wall profile, deep internal pockets, mounting bosses and narrow reinforcing ribs Application Field Handheld electronic laryngoscope assemblies Product Overview
This case features two CNC-machined 6061 aluminum half-shells for a handheld electronic laryngoscope housing. The photos show their curved exterior, hollowed interior, mounting bosses, reinforcing ribs and the seam formed when the shells are brought together. Sandblasting and black anodizing provide the specified exterior finish.
Structure and Machining Features
The long, curved half-shell profile combines thin walls with substantial internal material removal. Narrow cavities leave limited tool access around the screw bosses and thin ribs. Both the exterior contour and the mating edges matter: a shape change after machining can appear as an uneven gap when the halves are assembled.
Machining Challenges and Control Strategy
Thin curved walls can bend under cutting and clamping loads. A dedicated supporting fixture, controlled clamping and layered material removal help limit deflection during roughing. Allowing the rough-machined shell to stabilize before finish machining helps reveal shape change before the final contour and mating edges are cut.
The deep pockets, screw bosses and slender ribs require tool paths suited to restricted access and low local stiffness. The two halves should be checked in a released state and trial-fitted together, with attention to the arc profile, screw-boss alignment and visible seam. This focuses inspection on the assembled result, not only on dimensions measured while a shell remains clamped.
Quality Control Focus
- Curved contour and mating-edge shape after unclamping
- Gap consistency when the two half-shells are assembled
- Location and integrity of internal mounting bosses and narrow ribs
- Edge condition and finish uniformity after sandblasting and black anodizing
Project Value
For this housing, the useful acceptance point is the fit of the two finished shells. Controlling distortion through roughing, stabilization, finishing and released-state inspection helps achieve a more consistent visible seam and reduces avoidable fitting work during assembly.
