    Product Overview

This CNC-machined palm plate combines a broad, flat body with three elongated cutouts, multiple mounting holes, and raised bosses on one face. The openings remove a substantial portion of the plate's supporting material. Features on both sides require a controlled second setup before the black anodized finish is applied.

    Machining Challenges and Control Focus

As the three long openings are machined, the remaining plate becomes less rigid. Cutting and clamping stresses can cause warpage, especially after the part is released from the fixture. A suitable support and clamping scheme, balanced material removal, and a separate finishing pass help protect the assembly face. Flatness should be checked in the released condition rather than inferred from how the part sits in the fixture.

The raised bosses and through-holes must be related across two machining setups. A repeatable datum and locating method for the flip operation is important: setup shift can change hole position relative to the bosses, boss-height consistency, and parallelism. Inspection should reference the same functional datums used for assembly, with hole-to-boss alignment and mounting-face flatness checked together.

    Quality Control Focus

    • Released-part flatness of the broad mounting face after the large cutouts are made
    • Through-hole position relative to the raised bosses and assembly datums
    • Boss height consistency and parallelism across the second setup
    • Clean cutout edges, hole edges, and black-anodized surface condition

    Project Value

For an open-frame robot palm plate, appearance alone does not confirm assembly readiness. Defining the flip-setup datums and checking flatness, boss height, and hole-to-boss position on the released part gives both engineering and sourcing teams a practical basis for judging fit before the plate enters hand assembly.
